Choreography

1) 3 year Bachelor degree in Choreography (Affiliated to Bangalore University).

What is this course about?

  • This course is designed to help you develop as a dancer, choreographer and performance artiste.
  • Created by internationally renowned dance Guru & choreographer

Dr Maya Rao (Founder –Director)the course is based on her experiences & interactions in the studios & theatres of Europe, Russia, USA, U.K., and South America combined with her research of the various classical and indigenous dance forms of India.

Students from the N.I.K.C. come from all kinds of backgrounds
in Bangalore. Classes are offered at different levels in the
classical form of Kathak (the classical dance style of North India)
known for runs a number of initiatives to bring participation in
dance and dance training to the wider community

Early morning and evening classes:

The N.I.K.C. offers regular classes for adults its blend of lyricism
in interpretation and dynamism in presentation techniques
and in contemporary dance.

For those interested, individual classes are held on a daily basis.

Dance classes for children and young people :

The weekend dance classes cater to children between the age group of
6 to 14 and focus on creative dance alongside development of
technical skills in Kathak.

The faculty at the N.I.K.C. is made up of eminent artistes and experts
from the field of dance, music, theatre, design and the allied arts.
Over the years the N.I.K.C. has had the privilege of having on its faculty eminent artists and pioneers in the field of art and education.

Rehearsal and Performance Space:

The N.I.K.C. has a large studio, which is used, as a rehearsal space.
It can also double up as a performance space for students’ performance. Visiting dancers, musicians and theatre artistes from India and abroad
have presented their works here.

Music:

Student Productions
Established musicians come as resource people, train students
in rhythm and music composition, as well as compose music
for the student productions.

Performing unit:

The N.I.K.C. commissions original music scores for its productions and presentations created and recorded by eminent composers, to name a few Anil Biswas, Dagar Brothers, Ramamani (Karnataka College of Percussion), Parthodas, Shankar Shanbhogue, Amit Heri and Praveen Rao.

Costumes and Properties:

The studio houses Costumes and properties to aid student productions
as well as a separate section for the performing unit’s performances and tours.

Library and AV Equipment:

The Natya Institute, over the years has built up a collection of over 2,000 books and Journals on Dance, Theatre, Music, Fine Arts, Art History, literature, Aesthetics and related subjects.

Videos on Dance theatre productions, T.V, VCR, lighting and sound equipment also make up for the institute’s resources.

Hostel and paying guest accommodation:.

The Natya Institute administration can help outstation and overseas students to find accommodation near the Institute such as, Independent hostels, Family run Paying guest accommodations and apartments on rent.

Students & Graduates:

Natya is proof that dance is all-pervasive. We have students from both
rural and urban India and abroad overcoming cultural differences
to partake in the artistic whole of dance. The ICCR also deputes foreign students on an exchange programme with us. N.I.K.C. graduates are recruited by Indian Government organizations on teaching & choreography assignments internationally. These organizations also accord research & production grants, and fellowships to help the graduates pursue their careers in dance theatre. Apart from this, job opportunities are in plenty for Natya graduates as they are sought after by schools and colleges to make dance
a popular subject on their syllabi.
