The unit is made up of Natya’s graduates who are highly trained professional dancers. Led by Guru Maya Rao, the unit has presented the rich dance heritage of India in over 28 countries worldwide since its inception.

Natya Institute of Kathak &Choreography has a large repertoire made up of over 50 productions, choreographed by
Smt Maya Rao who has taken her performing unit to over 28 countries world wide.

The works vary from mythological, historical to
contemporary themes . Music has been composed by
eminent Composers. Anil Biswas, Partho Das, Shankar Shanbhogue, Amit Heri, Praveen Rao etc to name a few.

 

           
 

Kathak- The classical dance style of North India is known
for it's blend of lyricism in interpretation and dynamism in presentation techniques. Kathak, called after the style of kathakars, the story tellers,
which initially flourished in Jaipur and Lucknow, has evolved through the ages as a distinctive classical dance style of India.
N.I.K.C. presents its soloists and group ensembles with an option
of live or recorded music.

Kathak through the ages- portraying the various phases of evolution
of the vibrant classical Dance form-Kathak.

Dances of India -A comprehensive programme portraying
glimpses of the rich cultural dance heritage of India covering
the folk, classical, martial dances and traditional theatre forms.

Hoysala Vaibhava -A dance drama recreating the glory of the Hoysalas, inspired by the exquisite sculpture of the period
(Karnataka in the 11th and 12th A.D.)

The vision of Amir Khusrau- Based on the Ghazals & poetic works
of the immortal poet, philosopher, musician &Sufi saint Amir Khusrau, who worked towards communal peace and harmony.

Ramayana Darshanam- The epic as perceived by the Gyanapeeth awardee & poet Laureate Dr K.V.Puttappa.

“Dust of Vraj”- based on the plight of the Widows of Vrindavan
based on the writings of Jnanpeeth Awardee Dr Indira Goswami.

“Saare Jahan Se Achha”- Taraane- hind- Celebrating 100 years
of poet Nationalist Dr Iqbal having written India’s national song.
This production was created in collaboration with
the Karnataka Urdu Academy.

Kamana Billu- Rainbow- Interpreted through the Short stories of
Gyanapeeth awardee Dr Masti Venkatesh Iyengar.

SUVARNA KARNATAKA
This spectacular choreographic production was commissioned by the Government of Karnataka ,to be presented during the celebration of 50th year of the Unification of the state.Choreographed by Maya Rao with inputs by MadhuNatraj .The dance drama portrays the achievements of the state in different fields like Arts, Literature, Theatre, Sports, Tourism etc. The programme has been presented all over the state and outside, winning accolades from the press and public.

Adaptations of Sanskrit classics like Urubhanga, Madhyama Vyayoga,
Bhagavad ajyukiyam, Hasya choodamani to mention a few.

And many others like;

Vijayanagara vaibhava, Shakuntala,Vadhu
Dahan, Bechara Bhagwaan, Atheeth Varthamaan, Sur Das,
Tulsi ke Ram, Venkateshwara Vilasam, Kanaka Mahima,
Saraswat Parampara Pravaha , etc.

One of India’s leading traditional and contemporary dance groups
led by acclaimed dancer-choreographer Guru Smt Maya Rao and Madhu Nataraj, the dance Company has been acclaimed
for its innovative work and high standards of presentation
by the media & audiences.

A collaboration between Natya Institute of Kathak and Choreography and the STEM Dance Theatre. The Natya STEM dance ensemble was born out of a need to showcase both the Indian classical/ folk dance tradition and the evolving contemporary Indian dance form.
Natya Stems, unique styles, disciplines, the Natya STEM Dance Ensemble has created a varied and comprehensive repertoire,
which includes Kathak, Dances of India, contemporary dance and ballets on mythological, historical and contemporary themes.

NATYA STEM's unique style has been described as ‘refreshing and innovative,’ and its movement vocabulary ‘vibrant and energetic.’
